Beautiful Baby

Thad's Kindergarten Program

Thad was so excited about his Kindergarten program this year. He has told me every day for a week leading up to the program that he was practicing.
Loved the 2 handed wave. Thad always makes me grin and pulls at my heart strings every time he is excited to see us. It makes my day when he runs, grinning to me after school because he is so happy to see me there.
Nana and Papa got to come watch too. Norma stood and played with Papa's hair through the whole program. I don't think Papa will cut his hair after this.
I'm lucky I even got this picture. They were saying the ABC's and what they stood for in Kindergarten. I can't even remember what "G" was for. I was just excited that he got to hold up a sign. Then it was over before I could even get a second picture.
Thad did so well at his program. He is not the singer that Tucker is and only did the actions he wanted to do but he participated and loved it. Go Thadd! On to 1st Grade!!!

Asia visits 5/14/10

My parents went to St. George for the weekend and so we got to baby-sit their dog, Asia. She doesn't get along with Wall-E very well so we worried a bit but she did great! She is a very affectionate dog and needs a little more attention than I sometimes wanted to give her. She was looking at me so sad as I sat with the baby, I put up the recliner and invited her to come sit on my legs like Wall-E does. I forgot that she doesn't sit on legs, she sits on laps. She got up on my lap and then looked at Kate, wondering what she was doing there. I couldn't get her to lay down by my legs. She just laid across Kate's legs instead. And since there was room by my legs, Wall-E joined us. He just bummed his way up. Funny puppies!

Kate loves the outdoors

Kate just loves being outside! She calms right down and looks around. She just loves it! Which is so good because we plan to do a lot of camping this summer and it would have been hard if she didn't. :)

Flooded Backyard 5/10/10

Here are some pictures from when we had a huge rain storm and it flooded our back yard. It never made it to our basement because when we first were building the house we flooded into our basement so when we put in the backyard, Nate graded the yard so it wouldn't flood into the basement again. When you see all the water you will understand how grateful I am the Nate did that. Nate built this French Drain just for the water. We have always had this problem. It just couldn't handle this much water. If this wasn't here, we would have flooded into our basement and the neighbors would have had a lot more in their basements than what they got. This is where you can see we are getting all the water from the whole block. 3 of our neighbors flooded into their basements. I can't imagine how bad it could have been if we didn't take most of the water.

We always get mud about 5 inches thick covering the sidewalk here. It happens even if there is just a little rain. It's because this house doesn't have their yard in. Its an empty house right now.

Can you see the water just rushing in these next few pictures? I couldn't believe how fast it was rushing through the rocks and down the grass.
Love the rain and thunder you can hear on this video. Not the rushing water so much. Maybe if it was a mountain stream and not my backyard.

Here is an after picture of all the mud all that water brought into our yard. It will never be the same. We have had a rain storm since and it still flooded the yard all the way across it and under the swing-set. I could go on a rant about why we had this much water. Just know it has a lot to do with the program that we built our house with, the stupid city and the developer who owns the land behind us. Long story and a lot of not nice words. You can see all the water clear across our lawn in this picture. It was like that for nearly 2 days afterwards too. Still blows me away with how much water came through there.
One of the other bad things is it took forever to dry up so the kids couldn't go outside for a while. That was hard on all of us.

Up-date

In the last two weeks there have been- 2 more visits by the tooth fairy (one for Tucker and one for Thad), 1 flooded backyard (not in our basement, just our yard), no husband (working nights and overtime shifts), 1 extra dog ( my parents dog, funny story to go with that), 1 car accident (my mother, she's fine, broke her foot) and 1 crazy woman (me). I'll post pictures of the boys and the water later if I get a second.

2 months old

I took Kate in for her 2 month check-up today. I was going to take her in no matter what today because she has had a fever on and off for the last few days. She is 22 inches long and weighed in at a whopping 10 lbs 4 ozs! I could not believe that she was that big! She has gained 3 lbs since her 2 week appointment! I never imagined that she would be that heavy already. I have to say that I am not to happy with my doctor's office right now. First of all, the doctor and one of the nurses had a terrible cough. I could hear them hacking up a lung! So I just thought they would be wearing a mask when they came in to see us. Nope. Just sucking on a cough drop. Now I know that doctors get sick and still need to work, that is fine, I understand that, but I would think with a 2 month old they would be a little more cautious. Then to top off the whole experience, the nurse gave Kate all her shots separate. In the past they have had 2 nurses come in and do it all at the same time so it is not so many needles right in a row. By the time she was done there was blood running all down Kate's leg, she was so upset and I was in tears! I have never had a baby bleed so much from just their shots. I have never had a baby react so much to their shots either. She has been so fussy and refuses to move her leg more than she needs to. Which is so sad because she is such a good baby. It has not helped her fever at all. They told me it was nothing to worry about because it was off and on and she had no other symptoms. Now I can't get it to go down. I know it is from her shots but it is not going to help my night. And to top it all off, Nate is working nights now and I am home alone. Now I'm just complaining so I'll go. She is still smiling right after she wakes up though so I guess that is a good sign. It just doesn't last as long.

Blessing Day

We blessed little Kathryn yesterday. I wish the weather had been as nice as the day that Tucker was baptized though. But it was a wonderful day. Nate gave her a beautiful blessing, blessing her with intelligence and a thirst for knowledge. Those that stood in the circle are Nate, Papa, Uncle Jered, Zac and my uncle Rick.

Now for the story on her blessing dress. It is the one that my mom was blessed in and I was blessed in it also. It really hit me that this dress was 50 years old. My mom has kept it in such good condition. When my mom was born her Grandma Hjorth told my mom's mom,(my Grandma Thomas, sorry to confuse you) that this baby (my mom, she was the third daughter) needed a pioneer blessing dress. If you look closely in the above picture you can see the little slip that goes underneath the dress. The picture below is a close up of the top of the dress. It is so beautiful!
It is hard to think that all three of us wore this tiny dress and that we were ever this small. We all wore pink booties too. The dress is ivory and so it was really hard to find shoes to match it. They kept falling off at the church before the blessing so she was blessed bare foot. It was really cute.
Kate and her Nana

What a beautiful baby! You can see the slip really well in this picture. I truly hope that this dress will last another 25 years so that if Kate chooses to use it she can. I may not have choose to have my first daughter wear it, but it was perfect for this daughter! Kate is so wonderful to have in our family. We are lucky that she is ours. Aunt Kathryn took a whole bunch of pictures too. I'll post them too once she gets them developed.

Lost Tooth

Thadd lost his first tooth yesterday! It has been loose for a long time and he is always wiggling it. Nate tried to tie dental floss to it a week ago and pull it out but it keep slipping off. Yesterday they were trying it again. I suggested that they get a paper towel to dry it off to see if the floss would stay on. Nate ended up just grabbing it with the paper towel and pulling it out. It was still in there pretty good so it bleed a lot and Thadd said it hurt but he was just too excited that it was out to worry about it hurting to bad. He would run to the bathroom and you could hear him giggle and then he would come out and put his tooth right in your face to show you it was out. What a kid. 6 o'clock this morning he was up giggling again because the Tooth Fairy had come. It would have been okay but Nate had just come home at 4. Now Thadd can't wait til the next one comes out.
