Daddy Daughter Date

Norma has been counting down the days til her Daddy Daughter Date.  I have to share some of the funny things that she said and did yesterday as she was getting ready for her big day.

First off, she wanted to make sure I let her pick out her own outfit to wear.  I've been laying out her clothes for her to wear to school and she really wanted to pick them out herself.  She wanted to wear make-up so she put on her chap stick and "pretended" it was lip stick.  She wore a dress and walked around with her purse all day.

Nate worked the late shift the night before so he didn't come home til 5 in the morning.  Norma didn't care. She wanted him awake and taking her out.  When Nate finally did wake up, Norma was so upset that he came down stairs in his jammies.  She said to him, "I was hoping you would wear a tie at least."  What a funny girl!

It wasn't anything too special, Nate took her to McDonalds for a happy meal and then a treat at the grocery store when they went to go get some milk.  But it was perfect for her.  She was out with just her Daddy and that is what mattered.

Now she is counting down the days til Halloween.  Only because I told her it was to many days to count until her birthday. :0)

General Conference Relief Society Session

I wasn't able to go to this but my ward and stake was asked to sing here.  I couldn't find it on T.V. and I was so sad about missing it. Then to my horror, everyone on Facebook is talking about how great it was.  Luckily, someone posted a link where to find it.  For those of you who didn't go, or want to watch again, I'm hoping this works. :0)

Girls Night

Last night was a Girls night at our house.  Nate worked the BYU game and took Tucker with him.  (Sad game.)  Thad got to go with Kathryn up to Temple Square and do all the fun things with her, go to dinner and dessert, walk around Temple Square and have a night just with Kathryn.  So that left us girls at home.

First thing we did was set up a Little People Village.

I just love Little People and we have a lot of toys.  We played and watched Princess and the Frog and ate dinner.

We really had a very nice night just being us and playing with all the toys out.  Eva even got into the fun.  She was such a silly puppy and would come and turn on the toy that a bird whistling and would walk by and push the button with her nose.  It was so funny.

Because Nate took Tucker to this game and is taking Thad to the BYU vs. Utah State game in two weeks, he has promised Norma a Daddy and Daughter date.  She has been counting down the days.  She tells us that her excitement bubble is going to burst any day now and shows us how big it is.  Now we'll just have to schedule in a Daddy and Mommy date. ;0)

Remembering 9/11

I wanted to write down some of my memories of this day 10 years ago.  I'm sure that everyone remembers just what they were doing at the time the planes hit the towers.  I remember this day like it was yesterday.

I was just sitting down to eat my cereal before going to work.  I was living with my in-laws and I was watching cartoons.  I was so happy to be living in a house with cable so I could watch Loony Tunes when ever I wanted.  My Mom called me and asked me if I was watching the news.  "Mom, I live in a house with cable, I'm watching cartoons." I told her laughing.  She yelled to me to turn on the news quick.  That a plane had just hit a building in New York.  I turned on the news just as my Mom was saying, "Oh my God!  There is another plane!"  And together we watched in horror as the second plane hit.

It was a very long day at work.  Most of us stayed in the office watching the news.  I had so many thoughts going through my head.  One was, "What if my husband gets called up and has to go to war?"  "Will they do a call up like they did?"  Then I was brought to my knees thinking of the baby growing inside of me and the horrific knowledge that I was not sealed to the love of my life. Or the child growing inside of me.  I prayed so hard that day.  All I could think after that was, "Please don't take my husband away from me."

I don't remember much more about that day other than there was a concert that we were suppose to be going to.  Kris, Nate's mom, sang in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and had given Nate and I, and my Mom, Dad and little brother Gerald tickets to come see it.  Gerald had needed to see a concert for school.  We weren't sure that there still would be a concert.  It wasn't anything public, it was for some big-wig people.

We went and I had never been in the balcony before and we were right over the stage on the right.  I remember being so close.  When President Hinkley walked in the room went quite.  The rest of the Presidency was there and the spirit in that building was so strong and over powering.  President Hinkley spoke.  I wish I could remember what he said.  I just remember feeling peace.  And knowing that it would be okay.

They ended up dedicating the concert to the people that had lost their lives that day and to all the other people working and fighting to save lives.  After the concert we all stood.  You could have heard a pin drop.  We just stood there.  No one left.  The Choir started singing, "Come, Come Ye Saints".  They sang more and the whole room sang along.  The Spirit of the Lord poured out on us all.

Back then, my husband worked at a tire store.  Now he is out there daily.  Doing what he loves and I am scared for today to come.  I'm praying for peace in all our homes and hearts.  That we will never forget the lives that were lost that day and the years following because of that day.  10 years later and I can still remember the peace that the President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints brought to my heart and mind that day.  It brings peace to my soul today.

The choir is doing a special.  You can go here to see the details.  I know I'll be watching and remembering.

A Thad Post

I promised a post all about the day that Thad was born and I have had a lot of fun looking through all the old pictures I found.  I found a ton and kind of got distracted with all of them but that is not what I was looking for.  I did find all the ones I wanted though.

I was due with Thad on September 11.  I did Not want to be having a baby on that day and because of all the problems with Tucker, my doctor agreed to induce me early.  When he tried to schedule the hospital for me, they told him that they were full and wouldn't be able to get me in til the next week.  He was having none of that.  He told me to come in the next morning to his office and he would break my water, then the hospital would have to take me.

Next morning, bright and early I went and had my water broken and headed to the hospital.  It was just going to be Nate and I all day because I wanted to have my Mom with Tucker.  He was only 18 months old and I was really worried about him.

It was a very long day.  Around 11pm that night my doctor came back in and tried to move Thad around to get him to drop lower.  He just wasn't moving.  My doctor sat in my room with me for an hour watching the monitors and seeing what he could do to get this baby coming.  No hope.

It was just after midnight when he came in and told me that they were going to do an emergency c-section.  Which happen to be a little ironic because I had gone in just a few weeks before to have Thad flipped.  He was breech at the time and if he didn't flip they were going to schedule me a c-section.

When they finally made the choice to do the c-section, I had a very calm feeling through my whole body, knowing this is what needed to happen to get my baby here safe and sound.  Nate called his parents and they immediately came to the hospital.  Kris was so very sick but really wanted to be there for me.  It was so wonderful knowing that they were there for us.

They took us right back and at 1:25 am, Thaddeus Blaine Powell was born.  They brought him to me and I was able to touch him, something I wasn't able to do with Tucker when he was born.  I felt so very selfish asking Nate to stay with me then.  I wasn't doing well and I knew that Kris and Glade were there for Thad.

Here is one of the first pictures of him that Kris and Glade got.  The nurses came out and Kris went right up to them and said, "Is that the Powell baby?"  They wouldn't give her an answer and she said, "I'm that baby's Grandma and I want to see him."
They followed Thad and watched him get his first bath and everything.  Look how bruise my baby is.  They had to use forceps to get him out and I remember them pushing on my ribs trying to get him out.

I remember going into such shock after I had him that it was a few hours before I could even hold him.  But it was so wonderful being able to hold him and have him be healthy.

Here are the pictures I was looking for.  Kris didn't want these taken but I'm so glad that they were.

Our first family of 4 picture.  Look how young both my husband and Tucker are.
Tucker was enthralled with Thad.  He wanted to hold him all the time.

My babies.
I love this picture.  My Mom had asked about Thad's toes and I hadn't even looked at them yet.  I love that my Mom is leaning over looking at him and that it has all three of us in the picture.
Another one of my babies.

Love this picture.  Tucker is so excited to be holding his baby brother again.
I know that Thad was suppose to come to our family when he did and I pray every day that I can help him grow into what the Lord has in store for him.  I love you Thad-Man and I always will.

Our Family has grown...

By four feet.

This is puppy Eva.  Jered and Stephanie brought her to us on Sunday for Thadd's birthday.  He turned 8 yesterday.  I'm hoping to blog just about him and the day he was born on Thursday.  I have a lot of picture I need to scan in for that though.  So we'll just talk about Sunday.

So we had decided that we would take one of the puppies and that she would be mostly for Thadd for his birthday.  He was very excited and couldn't wait for them to come.

All the kids are piled on Jered while the girls were making the pizza.  Even Kate went to him.

While we were eating the puppy fell asleep on Jered's shoe and Thadd wanted to watch her sleep.  Isn't this picture just precious!

We decided to give Thadd his gift early since Nate would be working all day on Monday and we would be at Nana and Papa's for a BBQ later in the day.  He was so happy to get his scout book and belt.  He can't wait for scouts to start and he gets to come with me.  I happen to be his scout leader.

He was more excited about getting some new Transformers.  He is still very much into these toys and we are going to take him to see the movie this weekend.

He ended up getting more at Nana and Papa's on his birthday and had to tell everyone that it was his birthday.  Even the lady at the check out counter at the store.  He is so happy to be 8 and can't wait to be "bath-tized" in a few weeks.

 We love you lots Thadd-Man!

Katy's 18 Month Check Up

I wanted to post this info so that I would remember.  I haven't been keeping up on all the new things Kate does because she does so much now.

Here are her stats;
Length: 32.25 in 75%
Weight: 20 lbs 12 oz 10%
Head 48.9 cm 97%

So she still has a big head but we all knew that would be the case.  The doctor was very concerned about her weight.  I'll be trying a few new things but she really doesn't eat that much.  She would rather feed it to the dog.

A few things I talked to him about today was her constipation.  Poor thing will push and push all day long and not get anything out.  Hopefully what he told me to try will work.

He wasn't concerned about the tick bite at all.  But I will still be keeping the tick just in case something comes up later.

Her little private part is still very closed.  More than Norma's ever was.  I'm to use the cream again for a few weeks and then if it still isn't opened in a year or so we'll talk then.  Even with my concerns with the medicine I'm to put on her he still thinks this is the best course.

Other than that she is right where she needs to be.
She is running

walking

jumping even a little bit

She loves to pretend to talk on the phone but hates talking on it when someone is really there.

She loves having the freedom of going up and down the stairs on her own.

She has discovered water, (Walle's, the toilet, her cups that she can get it out of).

She knows "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes" and can point to all the parts.  She even sings the tune perfectly.  I think I have another singer in the family.  (Again, who wouldn't have thought that.) :0)

She knows all her siblings and can say all of their names, even "Alle".  I think that one is her favorite.

She also knows; thank you "tank too", more "mo", drink "oink", this "dis", and she is learning more every day.  We really feel that she is communicating so much more and we are trying to help her learn more words.

She loves that she can get a hang full of pretzels by herself and thinks she is so sneaky about it.

She goes back and forth between going to bed really well and having to lay with me in my bed before she'll let me lay her down.

She LOVES baby dolls.  She will walk around bringing me all the dolls in the house, (and we have quite a few) and she will sit on my lap with a baby in hers and feed it a drink or her bottle or just rock them in her arms.

She hair is so long!  Norma's wasn't this long til she was 3 or 4 years old!  It is almost half way down her back.  She loves having it done too.  Only if I have done Norma's first.  If I do Kate's first, she'll cry and say, "Owe!" But if I do Norma's first, she is trying to pull Norma out of the way so she can sit in front of me and be next.  I have had so much fun playing with her hair. :0)

She LOVES shoes!  If she is not wearing shoes, she wants to be.  She'll wear any shoes she can get her little feet in as you have seen in the post not to long ago.

She loves when, "Daddy" comes home.  She yells it and runs right up to him and hugs him.  Even if he has just walked outside to take Walle out, she'll act like he's been gone all day.

"Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom" is what I hear most of the day.  I have to say I love it. :0)

"Alle" is her best friend I think.  She will chase that poor dog all around the house and hold him and kiss him and chase him again.  He is her favorite toy.  And he is such a good dog about it too.  I have to tell you this story, she had been feeding him some pretzels and the next thing I hear is the poor dog yipping ever so softly.  I turn and she has a hold of his bottom teeth and just looking at his tongue.  It was so funny but that dog just let me know that she had a hold of him.  I told her to let him go and I get, "Alle!"  She let him go and he just walked around her and waited for another pretzel.  He is such a good dog with her!

Her eyes are slowing going brown.  I had such high hope of them staying blue or even going hazel but they are going a light brown.  Not as chocolate in color as mine or Tuckers but a very nice brown.  They still kind of change color with what she is wearing.  More brown when she wears pink.  Blue when she wears blue or brown and sort of green when she wears yellow.

I could go on all day about all the cute things this little angel does but I think I've gone on enough.  You get the idea. :0)
