Jog-A-Thon and more

On Friday Thadd's school did a jog-a-thon for a fundraiser. He has been talking about it for a week, ever since he found out they were doing it. The sent home the map of what they were having the kids run. They ran through the neighborhood in front of the school and asked parents to line the way and cheer them on. I told Thadd to look for us because we would be there cheering him on. We got to the park and had to wait awhile. You can see the school from the park and then you hear all the kids yelling, "Jog-A-Thon! Jog-A-Thon!" Finally they started down the road. Nate commented on how loud they all sounded running down the road.See if you can see Thadd. I didn't even know I got him in the picture til we were looking at them on the computer afterwards. I'll give you a hint, he has orange shoes on.

We were looking for Thadd and I wanted to get some pictures of all the kids running down the road. We looked and looked for Thadd. When all the kids had run by we hadn't found him. We walked across the park to where they were going to come back around. I walked to another street thinking they would come down there when I looked over to where Nate and Norma was and there was Thadd! I'm yelling at Nate and pointing but neither of them heard me or saw me. By then we saw that they were Not coming back by the park and we walked over to the school to see if we could catch him. We got to the back of the school just as Eric got there panting and saying, "I made it." We finally found Thadd in the back of the school and got him to come stand by the finish sign for pictures with Eric.
Nate had a field trip for school in the afternoon where they were going up rock canyon and he took Norma with him. It was so super quiet in the house. I was reading and didn't even notice that it was time to go get the boys from school! I had to put shoes on me, get Kate up from a very nice nap and get her in her carseat and race down to the school to get Thadd, 15 minutes late! We got to pick up Tucker before the bus came so it was okay. Thadd wasn't too happy about having to wait but he lived.
Norma with Daddy on his field trip.

Here are just a few pictures that were on the camera that I took of Kate. She is just so cute! And she sure loves her brothers!

A day of Norma

I had to write about Tuesday and all the things that happened to Norma. I had walked over to my friend Lisel's house to visit with just the girls before I had to go get the boys. Lisel is one of my really good friends that I built with and in her un-finished basement is just toys for the kids to play in. Norma had gone down stairs to play with Ryann, 5 and Elle, 2. I was sitting on the floor with the two babies, Lisel has a 3 month old, when we heard this huge thunk!!! It sounded like something had fallen over. I was just saying that it couldn't have been anything because we hadn't heard any screaming yet when Norma started screaming. You know the kind. The blood curdling, "Mom get here as fast as you can!!!!" kind. I don't think I have ran down the stairs so fast without falling in my life! Here is Norma with a T.V. on her feet! One of those big, old, Heavy ones! I thought her feet would be broken! I ripped off her shoes and socks and made her wiggle her toes. Never have I been so thankful that I buy my kids a size to big in shoes. It had just got the ends of her shoes! That is when I realized that Elle was standing right by where the T.V. had landed. Now Elle is this tiny little thing. She is very, very, Very small for her age. If that T.V. had landed on her, it would have killed her! My heart still goes crazy when I think about it.
A few hours later, I was getting dinner ready and Norma was being cute walking around in my boots. The ones with the tiny heels on them. I don't know quite what she was doing but she was laying down and decided she didn't want to wear them anymore and kicked one off. I turned to watched it flip up in the air and land, heel first, in the middle of her forehead! I am sorry to say that I couldn't even come to her rescue because I was laughing so hard! She is screaming and trying to get the one boot off without it doing the same thing and I'm laughing so hard that I can't even stand up to come get her. She has the perfect imprint of a heel on her forehead still! I'm laughing as I write this too. :)

The birds and the flies?

So I'm making dinner tonight and Tucker points out two flies on the ceiling "engaged" in a certain act and says to me, "Mom, look at those two flies that are on top of each other upside down!" I'm trying not to be snapping with him so I ah-huh him. Then I get this. "Mom are they mating?" WHAT??? I had to stop what I was doing, hold my breath so I didn't bust up laughing and respond, "Well, maybe, I don't know honey. Will you set the table for me?" He's 8! I don't really need to be having the birds and the bees conversation with him yet? Apparently I do. Oh dear!

Busy, busy weekend!

It has been a terrible two weeks in the Powell house. I won't go into it because you don't want to hear me whine, just know it has been terrible. So when Nate broke his tooth on Thursday it was just the cherry on top of the terrible sundae. So the start to our weekend started with a dentist appointment. One tooth later, we move on to Kate's 6 month check up.
Here are her stats: she is 25.5 inches long(25%), she weighs 14.13 pounds (25%) and her head is 44.75cm (95%). The doctor was a little worried about her head getting so big. It was only in the 45% last time. I just chuckled. He asked if big heads run in the family. I told him that her dad had a big head. He thought that was funny.

Out of all my kids, Kate has had the hardest time when she gets shots. She is just not a happy baby for up to 3 days after. It makes it hard because she is such a good baby. She is talking all the time, she is sitting on her own, she is saying "mama" and she is just growing so much more than I want her too.

After Kate's doctor, we went to my parents house for dinner for Thadd's birthday. They really spoiled him, which was good because all we got him was going camping. It was a yummy dinner and a nice night with my family. I wish it had ended better but that would go into whining so we'll go on.

Nate had to work Friday night but then had the weekend off so we got a camping spot up Hobble Creek for the weekend. Back when I saw this, I asked Thadd if he would like to go camping for his birthday. It was "yes" and all he could talk about since. We left around noon on Saturday and got up there by 2:30, we had a few stops to make on the way. I don't think we will go to this place again. The campsite was really small, the water had already been winterized and I'm pretty sure the bathrooms hadn't been cleaned in a while. We were right by the water so I worried about the kids falling in. There wasn't a lot to do. I was glad that I had brought a few things for them to do.
The boys doing puzzles.
Norma colored.
Kate played in the playpen. She loves sitting on her own now and it works really well for me because she can entertain herself a little better.

Sunday was Thadd's birthday and he got to pick what we did, ate and played all day. We made pancakes and bacon for breakfast, egg-salad sandwiches for lunch, and hamburgers for dinner. We played a lot of games together and had a wonderful day!
We enjoyed sitting around the fire before bed. In this next picture you can see how close the campsites were. The kids loved helping make the fire each night and hearing all the crickets.

I got all three kids in the picture sitting around the fire. The creek is just out of shot to the right.
Kate liked to pull herself up to see the fire. Isn't she is cutest!!!
Blowing raspberries! Her new favorite past-time.
After having such a terrible two weeks, we really needed to get away from it all. We couldn't have asked for a better way. We had so fun fun just being our family, being outside and relaxing for a few days before having to come back to the real world. It is nice to know that we can have such a great time after things get so bad. We have loved camping this summer and can't wait to go again next year!

AHHHHHH!!!

We were running late this morning and as we were all running out to the car, Tucker pointed out this...It has to be 6 inches across! He found it when I asked him to take out some garbage for me and being the good son he is, brought up the garbage can from the road. THIS was where we keep our cans. Norma was freaked out, running to the car as fast as she could! We nearly missed Tuckers bus because I had to take a picture. When we pulled up after dropping the boys off, it had moved down to the ground. "I am NOT getting out!" was Norma response. I had to carry her, the dog (I didn't want him thinking he could play with it) and the baby in one at a time. Man, what trouble one spider can make. (I was going to put "little" spider, but who am I kidding, it is HUGE!)
