Fallen Trooper

Trooper Aaron Beesley passed away on the job, doing what he loved most.  Helping others.
Troopers from across country turn out for fallen UHP trooper\'s funeral

It has been a hard week in the Powell home.  This death hit to close to home.  Nate called to tell me what had happened and that it wasn't a shooting.

Nate had just met this Trooper less than a month ago.  He spent a good part of the day, talking with him about his job and working on the helicopter.  He had 3 young boys and was younger than Nate.

Nate was able to go and participate in the funeral in the Motor's Squad.  It always gets me, the support that the families get from all the Troopers.  The thing that I picture is all those officers saluting and honoring this Trooper.

There will be an other empty chair added to the table at next years banquet.  Another empty glass.  Another empty plate.  Another family missing the most important member.

May God be with you and your family.  Always.

4th of July

Not happy with not having a camera.  I took some with my phone and not happy with what I got.  But I'm sharing them anyway because it is all I have and some of the things that happened are very worth remembering. :0)

So Winni spent the day crafting with me and we made these.

It looks better on my phone. :0(

This is where I put them.

Very nice huh? :0)

We were outside all day and we did put sunscreen on but... we forgot a few places.  My leg and her neck.  Ouch.

We headed over to the Powells for a BBQ and fireworks.  Glade made the best burgers! Glade and Diane were very nice to let Kathryn and Winni join in the fun.  It was wonderful having all of us there and the kids played so well!  I love when they all get along.

Now you have to know that the Powell's are early people.  You sometimes have to wear sunglasses to see the fireworks because they do them when it is still light outside.  This year was a bit better.  It was darker.  The wind was bad too so we had to come up with something to protect the fireworks.  This is what Nate found.

Yes.  That is a wheelbarrow.  Made for some easy clean up. :0)

Now here are some pictures that I'm sad about.  Katy was being so cute with Thad and I knew that if I tried to get closer that she would quit.  So look closely and you will see how very cute she was.

Then she got tired of giving a hard time to Thad and came to be with Winni.

And then Kathryn.

At one point she was climbing the swing the kids were sitting on.  Then when one of the fireworks went off, she pretended she was dead.  She leaned back with her tongue out and eyes closed.  I laughed so hard!

It really was a wonderful night and the kids loved being outside when it was dark.  We stayed late enough for the Thanksgiving Point fireworks to start and Glade's is the best place to see all the fireworks in Lehi that people set off.   I had a hard time with people setting them off this year.  With the fire danger, I don't know if I would have done it.  That is why we used a wheelbarrow. ;0)

Another Fire Pic

This was taken by my neighbor.  That is our house there on the right.  The fire was just on the other side of the mountain there.  We were so blessed.  To not lose any homes.  To have be told to leave when we did.  I am truly blessed.

Potty Training

Yep.  That is what we are working on at this house.  I got tired of Katy playing in her diaper every time that she pooped.  She would stand there, pushing and telling me, "I'm poooooping."  And then have to check and shove her hand down her diaper.  Not cool.  So, no more diapers.  I hope.

She is doing very well.  Haven't got her to #2 in the potty.  But it has been in a pull-up and not panties.  She says that it is "water" when she #1's.  She can call it water.  At least I know what she is talking about.  She loves that she gets treats and she is willing to sit on her potty every half hour.  I set the timer.  Mostly for me.  But she knows when she hears it she has to go potty.
So proud of my big girl.  I'm just praying that we make it through the week without me losing my mind.  It is hard having your day interrupted every half hour.  Makes sewing so hard. :0)

One of my Favorite Things

I am a reader.  Always have been.  My earliest memories of loving to read are with my Mother.  She would read a book with me.  She would read a page and then I would read a page.  I love reading!  So it does my heart good to see this.

Thursdays are our library days and the kids can't wait to get new books!  I'm so glad that I have readers.  It makes it easier for me to read too.

Burraston Ponds

Yes, that is how you spell it.  I had to take a picture so I would know how to spell it to blog about it.  Nate really wanted to take the boys fishing here at Burraston Ponds.  He grew up fishing here and catching a ton of fish.  I had never been and I talked him into camping for the night.  I think this will be our new go-to camping spot.  It was just as close as Vernon and it has a ton of trees for shade.  It was so nice.  The one thing that I had a hard time with.  The toads.  No crickets to put you to sleep.  Make you enjoy being outdoors.  No, it was toads.  They are louder and not as nice to go to sleep too.

I won't tell you that Nate didn't catch any fish, and I won't tell you that he has never caught a fish with the boys but I will tell you that they loved going out in the canoe and that I really miss my camera.  Oh, and we will never take the dogs again. :0)

Few Katy Photo's

This is how we found her the first morning that we slept over at Nana and Papa's.  Flat on her face, out of her bag and over by Tucker's.
This is the Cuteness coloring in her Dvd case that we made last week.  She loves having her picture taken now.  So different from a few months ago. :0)
