Knew it would happen

I just knew that this would happen. We are now the proud owners of our Durango! Yep, it is the first family car that we have owned out right and have not replaced in a year after buying it. I knew that we would have problems with it if we did pay it off. No sooner did the check clear...
We were on our way to Salt Lake and not even off our street when it started making noises.Nate turned around and found the problem. The wheel bearing went bad on the front left tire and the whole hub assembly had to be replaced. (I had Nate just tell me all that so I could write it down right.)I have the best husband in the world! He fixed it for half of what it would have cost us to have someone else do it and all before we had to go get the boys from school, and it was early day. Isn't it great owning your own vehicle.

Tornado Insurance

I think I need to get some tornado insurance or maybe hurricane because this is how the morning started... Kate talking to the baby on the t.v. Very cute. She loves talking to the babies she meets, even if it is just on the t.v. or pictures of herself on the computer. She is quite the chatter box.

This is what my house looks like after her conversation with the t.v. You can see the culprit at the top of this picture.

And who is to blame for this mess? A tornado? No. A hurricane? No. It would be this...
She sure is lucky she is cute.

Happy Birthday Grandpa

I hope that you are having a wonderful day! I am sad that it cut short, Kate started singing right after this. It was really cute.

Hair cut

Norma's hair has been a mess lately. She hates to have it brushed and she screams the whole time I try and do anything with it. I really wanted it cut but didn't dare do it myself again. I just knew that I would mess it up and that it wouldn't be straight. Ryann, my neighbor came over this morning and cut it for me. Thank you so much Ryann!

This is the before picture of her hair.

And this is after.I love it! It is going to be so much nicer to comb in the mornings and it is still long enough that I'll be able to do some fun things with it. Norma said that she looked like a different person. She sure does. But a cute, not screaming the whole time I touch her hair, person.

Tucker's 9th Birthday

Today it has really hit me that my boy is 9. I still think of it as if it were yesterday.

*I'm just putting this disclaimer here; For those of you who are not interested in my reminiscing, blubbering, long and very personal account of the day Tucker was born, please just skip to the end where I talk about his birthday yesterday and things that happened.*

He was due on the 4th of February and with him being my first baby, they wouldn't start me. I had gone in around 1pm on the 7th for a stress test to see how he was doing. It was then that they figured out that he didn't have much fluid left and that he was starting to be under stress. They started the "pit" around 3pm and at 4 they realized that it hadn't been hooked up to my IV, it had been dripping onto the floor.

This picture had been taken on the 4th. My Dad always would tell people that his belly was as big as mine. Here is the picture to prove it.
Around 6pm that night, a nurse came in to check me to see if I was progressing and ended up breaking my water on accident. Which ended up being a good thing because Tucker had had a bowel, not a good thing for a baby to do. By 6am the next morning I was in so much pain, my contractions were 30 seconds apart and not dropping below a 40 and I still refused to have an epidural. They scared me more than the thought of labor. I was finally talked into getting one when a nurse came in and told me that I probably had 12 more hours of labor. I got the epidural. She was right. It was about 5:30 when I started pushing and at 6:05pm, he was here. The doctor held him up for me to see, cut the cord and the nurses all rushed in and he was gone. I had gotten just one little glance of my new born baby and that was it. Nate was torn about staying with me or going with Tucker. I had my Mom, Dad and Aunt Kathryn with me so I made him go with Tucker. It was about 10 minutes later that he came running back to tell me that Tucker had my brown eyes and dimples. That they didn't know what was wrong with him, they were doing more tests but he wanted to come tell me that and left again. It was 3 more hours before I was able to see Tucker again and this is what I saw.
My baby looked like an alien to me. I was so afraid to even touch him. They had him strapped down because he keep pulling out the tubes and everything. It was about this time that Kris and Glade showed up. Kris had been singing at the Opening Ceremonies for the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympics. The doctors had told us that they had taken pictures of Tucker's lungs and that there were some holes that they couldn't figure out what they were. I was so afraid that I was losing my baby after just barely getting him here. Nate and his Dad gave Tucker a blessing and we went down to my room.
I remember making Nate climb into bed with me and hold me while we cried. It was the next morning before we would be able to hold him. This picture is one that Nate went home and printed off and put in a frame to have in my room so that when people came to see Tucker, they would be able to see the picture. No one but us and the Grandparents were allowed in the NICU.
By the afternoon, the doctors had re-taken pictures of his lungs and they were amazed that the holes they had seen the night before, were gone. Believe me when I say, the power of the priesthood is real!

Tucker still had to stay in the NICU for a week to finish off the medicine that he was taking. We were able to stay in the Ronald McDonald room that is right around the corner from the NICU so we were never far away. Tucker was the biggest baby in the NICU at the time. Most of the other babies were in there for RSV or because they were premies. Tucker hated having the IV. He was always pulling it out. At one point they had to put it in his head because he would not leave it in his hand. That was hard. It was a great day when we finally brought him home.
I had to put this picture in here. It is one of my favorite of Tucker with Grandma. It is on his first birthday, so I figured I could get away with it.
I don't know what I would do with out my Tucker. He is so amazing! He is such a great big brother, he is so smart!, he helps a ton and always tries to help me have a better day. Man, I love that boy!

*Okay, I'm done being a downer. On to yesterday*

Nate had class last night, so sometimes go to my parents on those nights. With it being Tucker's birthday, it worked out that we could do his birthday dinner on his birthday instead of having to do it the same night as the Super Bowl. Tucker had asked for a test tube birthday cake and my Mom did this.
Pretty good, huh! I think it's great! Tucker is very into science right now and I had tried to talk him into a Mad Scientist party for his friends but.. Right as we were sitting down to eat, Kathryn had been holding Kate and went to hand her to Papa so that she could help set the table. She hadn't know that she was holding Kate that close to the cake. Papa said her eyes were all big as she was coming toward him and then, Plop! Frosting all over the floor, Kate and Papa.

I think Tucker made out with a really good birthday. He got 4 different games, a model car to build with his Dad and Papa and a few other things to keep him busy.
We love you so much Tucker and are so lucky to have such a great 9 year old in our house to teach us how to be better parents. Tucker will no longer be in Scouts with me. :( But I know that he will still have fun without me.

Oh, I almost forgot about his treats with school. We hadn't gone and bought him any treats to take because I had been sick and Nate had been working nights. He was pretty let down about it and his Dad and I felt really bad about it. So Nate went and got some Little Debbie brownies and took them to the school before he had to go to his class and they were waiting there at Tucker's desk when he came back from lunch. Yep, that made us cool parents. :0)

Happy Birthday Tucker!

Who needs a walker...

Kate has a stool!

She will push this thing around the kitchen all day. It scared her the first time it moved but she is getting such a personality now that she just loves to make us laugh. (I just had to take a lot of pictures to get some I liked and now I've ended up liking more than a few so I'm sharing.)

She of the new things she has been doing;
-she has learned no. She will shake her head at me when she knows she is doing something I'm going to tell her no about.
-she waves. LOVE IT! She is a waving fool! She waves at everyone at the store, she waves when I take her to bed, she waves when people come in and out of the door and I'm trying to teach her to blow kisses. She's learning.
-she's learning that if she wakes up at night and cries, Mom will rock her back to sleep.
-she sleeps on her tummy. Up on her knees. I really need to get a picture before she changes.

I'm betting that by the time her birthday comes around in 3 1/2 weeks that she will be taking steps on her own.

Celebrate

Tucker's birthday is coming up next week and we had asked him what he wanted to do. I really tried to talk him into a friend party this year because I found the fun-est new site that has amazing ideas for parties. But he just wanted to go out as a family. Not going to knock that either. The original plan was to go to Pirate Island in Provo but I guess he was talking to so people at school that said it was totally un-cool. Of course he doesn't tell us this til we are in the car going there. So he made a drastic change and bowling was chosen instead. So glad! We had so much fun and now Nate wants to get together a bowling team for a hobby.

Tucker did amazing and bowled without the ramp for the whole game. Thadd made it through half the game without it and Norma was so funny about aiming it. Kate did really well for having been in the car all day running errands and not having a nap at all. We put her in the stroller and walked her around a lot.

Tucker bowling like a pro!

Thadd doing the frog! Love this picture!

Norma aiming the ramp. And can't go anywhere with out the baby butt crack. :0)

It was a very fun night. I just love my family! They are the best!

Sick house

Okay. You may think I am whining and I might be just a bit, but we have had a very sick house this week. It all started Monday night with Thadd complaining of a stomach ache and Norma with a sore throat. By the next morning, they both had fevers and had been up most of the night, keeping Kate up with them. She has been teething and not sleeping anyways. I had a meeting Tuesday night and my Mom and Winni came out to help me with the kids. (Nate had class that night.) Mom ended up texting me in the middle of my meeting saying Thadd's fever was worse and could she give him a half of a Tylenol. Of all things to run out of when your kids are sick is pain reliever. I had to text Nate to pick up more on his way home. Thadd ended up missing 2 days of school because his fever and tummy ache. Now Norma on the other hand. Her throat felt better but she had been up screaming for 2 nights about her ear hurting. It would feel better by the next morning but around bed time she would start up again. Because she would feel better in the morning I didn't think about taking her to the doctor til Thursday when she told me she was pulling stuff out of her ear. She let me look in it and it was so full of puss and so swollen, that I got her into the doctor that night. Her ear drum had burst and was draining all over the place. I was going to take a picture but I decided to not gross you all out. It's amazing what a little medicene from the doctor will do. Wish she could have gotten something for the pain though because she was still up screaming on Thursday night. Friday was so much better. Norma even woke up and said how nice it was for her ear not to be hurting anymore. It was very nice to get somewhat of a full nights sleep, (Kate is still waking up with her teeth) last night for the first time in a week. I know that is nothing to complain about but it was really bad for us.
